Confessions... So, 2008 is over. I remember sometime last year, I had made a goal to scan something everyday. I laugh at that goal now. It's hard and I complain to easily... not a good combination. Because 2008 is over, I can make a few confessions about the dreaded year:1. I saw New Kids on the Block in concert (AKA NKOTB). It was a free ticket that my friend won. But, what's worse? I actually enjoyed myself. I can't honestly that I enjoy all of their songs, but I gotta give them credit for getting up there and not caring if they were making a fool of themselves... I guess they are laughing all the way to the bank.2. I saw High School Musical 3 on opening night... It's true. I have seen all three on their premiering night. I actually watched HSM 1 on it's television premiere. I bought the soundtrack that same night... Believe it or not, the store only had a stock of 3 copies. Not because they were sold out, but because that's all that was ordered for the store. Who woulda thunk? (I am getting tired of people obsessing over it)3. Taylor Swift's song "Love Story" is actually growing on me... but only the Pop Edit.4. I am thinking of opening a Facebook account. I wasn't really against it, I just didn't want to start yet another something that I would just end up ignoring... ie: this blog.5. My iTunes library has 22,877 songs. And it's growing everyday."These are my confessions"... more to come. Please feel free to leave a confession from 2008.
The Osmonds...This past weekend I went and saw The Osmonds in concert. It was hilarious. No really, it was hilarious. Look how old they are and they cam out on stage as though they were still 15. They still have decent voices (for their age). But those dance moves that were "cool" in the 70's are not cool in their 70's. Highlights of the concert were "Bad Apple" and "Yo-Yo." The reason for their highlightness?? Watching the Sign Language interepreter express the emotions of a 70's teeny-bopper song. Oh, another higlight? Marie Osmond in the "Ice Princess" dress. Kidding aside, The Osmonds are a pretty amazing family. Most entertaining families hate eachother by now. They come off as very genuine and with a desire to do their best and to honor their parents legacy. WTG!
Mayer Concert... Some concerts far exceed their expectations. First off, shout out to the Mom's out there that are able to let loose and have a good time. The concert started off with traffic, but not as bad as we all anticipated (a plus). We ate at Ab's Drive In, pretty good food, excellent Coke, and I didn't get sick (a plus) We got to park in the Carpool parking lot, which is actually worth it, because you are closer to the exit (a plus). We won some t-shirts (a plus). The ticket taking people made us shake out our blankets, that's lame (a negative). They make you walk all around the venue to get to the grass (a negative). We were able to spread out 10 blankets for 5 people (a plus). The sun was out, but it was HOT! (split). USANA has no real bathrooms to speak of, you'd think by now they would (a negative). The opening acts were very good and got us in the perfect mood including some dancing caught by the people sitting behind us Check It Out. They should have gotten more, but I can't complain, it's just that we look like idiots just swaying in the videos they have posted (split, but mostly a plus). Molly shaking hands with John Mayer (a plus). John Mayer is an excellent performer with much talent that can't be ignored (a plus). We took the opportunity to continue interpretting his music through dance. I swear you'd think we were drunk, but we weren't ( a plus). The Moms were convinced they had a secret way of getting out of the parking lot quicker by taking the Tahoe up and over this dirt mountain, it was fun, but the gate was locked (a plus for the fun factor). Listening to Newsies on the way home (a plus). The first Sonic Drive In who was out of bananas (a plus). The second Sonic Drive In who had bananas (a plus).... we had banana splits (a plus). Getting home in the same looney mood that we left in (a plus). Going to bed at 1 AM (a negative).... At least we had fun (a plus).
Underrated Artists... This month's under valued artist award goes to two great artists. One is a solo effort, while the other is a group effort. Every time I come across an artist that I feel needs some more attention, I will share it with you. Robyn: You probably remember this mini swede from the 90's with her hit, "Show Me Love". Well, she is back in the states with a new album that rocks! No, seriously, it is a great album with great songs. NERD: Now, I saw these guys at "The Concert". They have lots of energy and their group includes Pharrell (mastermind behind Gwen Stefani's solo efforts and numerous other artists). If you're a hip hop fan, this is a must.If you have an artist that you think I should listen to, let me know... I am up for anything. However, if I conclude that the artist is overrated, I may have to post about it.
Best & Worst... Was i naive to think that I could actually have THE concert of the year go perfectly? Could I actually have the best of both worlds? Well, the quick answer is an emphatic no. I think I had put way too much expectation into this concert. But, here is what went wrong, in no particular order:Lines - we had to wait in way too many lines.Dueling Radios - While waiting in the too many lines, we had to listen to two radio stations battle for our ear's attention.Chipotle Chicken Crispers - Love 'em, but I think I have IBS.Ear plugs - I forgot to bring them.E Center - They just suck, security sucks, bathrooms suck, sound sucks.Late - The concert started more than a 1.5 hrs late!IHOP- Because it started late, Rihanna thought it was ok to enjoy a short stack as we all waited in line.Crowd - Full of the too young and the too old (who thought they were young)GA - General Admission generally means there is no assigned seating, just because you had a "spot" 5 min ago, doesn't mean you have it now.Breaks - While standing for 40 min in between performances we had to watch stupids sneak into the GA area.Sound - Already mentioned, but the sound needed a major overhaul.Water Bottles - Someone thought it would be ok to throw a water bottle at my sister's head... not cool.1:30 AM - When I gave into my fatigue and said it's time to go home.Next day - TIRED.Having shared that with you, I still love all of the performers, own all of their albums, and will continue to listen to them and appreciate their energy (even though I had zero after all of the above).
Christian Concert... The weather is good, so I am back (but, if it goes bad again, I am back on hiatus in protest). I went to a Christian Pop/Rock concert. I knew of two of the artists and some of their songs. But, I think I was more interested in seeing the crowd. It was very interesting. The parking lot was full of Christian bumper stickers and Jesus fish emblems. They were a fun crowd that was full of a lot of religious fervor. The music was good too (minus disciple). I even bought a cool new hat. The hat has netting on it (this is a big step for me).
Glow in the Dark Tour.... Let the countdown begin... I am so excited for this concert. It's going to be one non-stop party!! It'll be one of the first concerts where I know and enjoy all of the acts performing. I can feel the energy building just writing about it. And don't you worry, I will let you know all of the details of the concert. As soon as I go.
