Lagoon...I haven't been to Lagoon in a long while, but I found this old picture taken on the Colossus. Oh, to be a kid again. No worries, no thoughts about tomorrow, no worrying about whether or not your clothes are too casual for a "casual dress code." I just look at this picture and sometimes yearn for the summer days as a kid. Do you ever have thoughts of wanting to go back, but then those thoughts come to a screeching halt when you start thinking about having to go through middle school again? This entry really didn't end up being about Lagoon at all. Oh, well. Actually, Lagoon is kind of a nasty place where I don't want to come in contact with anyone or anything, for fear of diseases and touching old gum.

Britney Challenge (Week 1)... I have often said that Britney Spears is my favorite artist. I realize I am stretching the definition of artist in saying that. My love for Britney goes all the way back to 1999, when "Baby One More Time" could be heard from every radio station. You couldn't avoid it!! Let's face it, I was hooked from that point on. I am well aware of her personal issues and since 1999 my music taste has to evolved to include many other artists and genres, but through it all one thing has remained constant... my love for the artist formerly known as Mrs. Federline. So, in honor of her, I am beginning my Britney challenge. This challenge requires me to listen (in my car) to a Britney album each week. This week is her debut album, ...baby one more time. Quite honestly, I don't think I have listened to it since it first came out. The other thing that makes it a little difficult is my M-ADHD (Music Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) I can only listen to a song for about a max of 1 min 30 sec. Wish me luck and you can join me (if you can find your copy of this album under the layers of dust).

Tangles... Why is it every time I use a vacuum, the cord tangles?? It is a mystery and it happens EVERYtime! The tangle is a respector of no vacuum! I try so hard to keep it straight, but still, it tangles. The scanned tangle is a real tangle, I didn't set that up! I think it might actually be a test of my patience from heaven (thank you). The same thing happens with my headphones. Grrrr!

Golf... What a funny sport. You hit the tiniest ball in to the smallest hole on a large piece of land. As funny as it is, it's still fun. I am a very mediocre player. I went with some co-workers a couple of days ago to hit a bucket of balls during lunch. We had a good time. So, my point is. If you're bored, you should go hit some golf balls. I find it to be a great stress reliever (some people think it brings on more stress). Plus, when you're just at a driving range you can smack the balls as hard as you want and it doesn't matter where it goes.

Edited Movies... I am all for edited movies, but I just wish the movie studios would allow to do have them done professionally. I am sorry, but CleanFlicks sucks at editing movies. They end up being choppy and sometimes hard to understand and in the end, they don't even know the movie that they are editing.... It's called Pretty WomAn not Pretty WomEn. Stupid! That's all I have to say about that.

Flip-Flops... This blog entry was a long time coming. I love flip flops. But, I can't tell if I love flip flops more than not wearing socks. I really don't like socks and I know that I have blogged about that before. I believe the root of all of this comes from my life abroad on the isles of Fiji. I never had to wear socks or shoes... it was literally fantastic!! If my work would let me wear flip flops all the time, I would be in heaven... Unfortunately, No Shoes, No Socks, No Work... which means No Money. So, I save flip flops for immediately after work and the weekends.

Underrated Artists... This month's under valued artist award goes to two great artists. One is a solo effort, while the other is a group effort. Every time I come across an artist that I feel needs some more attention, I will share it with you.

Robyn: You probably remember this mini swede from the 90's with her hit, "Show Me Love". Well, she is back in the states with a new album that rocks! No, seriously, it is a great album with great songs.

NERD: Now, I saw these guys at "The Concert". They have lots of energy and their group includes Pharrell (mastermind behind Gwen Stefani's solo efforts and numerous other artists). If you're a hip hop fan, this is a must.

If you have an artist that you think I should listen to, let me know... I am up for anything. However, if I conclude that the artist is overrated, I may have to post about it.

Kanye West... So, in continuation of "the concert". Kanye handed out a book. The book is basically a collection of Kanye-isms. They basically keep telling you that Kanye is the greatest thing to walk this earth and that everyone should know that by now. I am not sure why music artists (specifically rap artists) have to have this arrogance with them. Why do they need to be the IT thing? No one cares. Seriously, Kanye no one cares! Keep making the tunes, but no one cares whether or not your the greatest. So, in the words of a lesser known group... "Get Over Your Self, Goodbye."

Pipeworks... I don't care for many of my childhood toy. But, I do care for my pipeworks and they have come in handy over the years. The other day, my nephews thought it was the most exciting thing to watch my pipework's wheels bounce down the stairs and down the hall way. Actually, the wheels were a part of the most magical Christmas. I had forgotten to tell Santa that I wanted the wheels for Christmas until Christmas Eve. They still came!! I was a believer after that.
If you don't know, Pipeworks are a set of life size pipes and connectors that can be taken apart and put back into anything your imagination can come up with. I used it for my movie sets, for letters on a Christmas light display, and also for a backyard water park. As I am writing this, I am wondering why I care to tell the world of my love of pipeworks... then it hit me, I don't care.

Phantom... I just returned from St. George. I went a day early with my sister and we attended a performance of the infamous "Phantom of the Opera." It was an excellent performance. Truth be told, I have seen the Phantom on the professional stage twice before and I hated it. I never really got the story. To me it was about some creepy guy that seduces a young girl through music and that was just weird to me. Anyway, fast forward to when they released the film, I gave it another try. I ended up liking it... a lot! The Las Vegas production follows the film version very closely. The theater, special effect, and of course the actors were incredible. The ticket price was well worth reliving the music of the night for a third time.

PS... Apparently, Andrew Lloyd Weber is working on a sequel to the phantom... Something to do with NYC and Broadway... Who knows? Sounds strange.

Sports Drinks... Our fridge died a day ago. There is nothing to drink besides water. It's warm outside and there is this lone Kirkland Sports Drink. There was a time when I didn't like Sports Drinks. I thought they all tasted like salt water, but now that I am older and my taste buds have matured, I enjoy them. My favorite flavor is fruit punch. I don't like the other "red" flavors (ie. strawberry)... Gotta be Fruit Punch. An interesting note to these drinks, they tend to stain your lips, especially when they are dry. Make sure your lips are well moistened (hate that word). Enjoy.

Celebrities... I met a celebrity last week. What's strange is, I was nervous. I have no idea why. I don't even know the person and they don't even know me. But, just as I was going up to get their autograph, I got sweaty palms and my heart started to beat. In reality, the celebrity seemed a little pensive about the whole thing too. Either way, they signed the poster and noticed the marker was drying out and asked, "Is that ok?" and I replied "Not really, but it will do." Hello?! I am an idiot. This person was willing to sign something for me and I was rude. So.... I am sorry.

Stains... I like popsicles. However, they present a real problem for me. I decided to eat a popsicle during my lunch break the other day (it was delicious, thanks for asking)... BUT, I spilled and looked like a 3 yr old. To top it all off, I think the stain will be permanent....sad.... Clorox Bleach Pen comes to the rescue, goodbye stain!

Best & Worst... Was i naive to think that I could actually have THE concert of the year go perfectly? Could I actually have the best of both worlds? Well, the quick answer is an emphatic no. I think I had put way too much expectation into this concert. But, here is what went wrong, in no particular order:

Lines - we had to wait in way too many lines.
Dueling Radios - While waiting in the too many lines, we had to listen to two radio stations battle for our ear's attention.
Chipotle Chicken Crispers - Love 'em, but I think I have IBS.
Ear plugs - I forgot to bring them.
E Center - They just suck, security sucks, bathrooms suck, sound sucks.
Late - The concert started more than a 1.5 hrs late!
IHOP- Because it started late, Rihanna thought it was ok to enjoy a short stack as we all waited in line.
Crowd - Full of the too young and the too old (who thought they were young)
GA - General Admission generally means there is no assigned seating, just because you had a "spot" 5 min ago, doesn't mean you have it now.
Breaks - While standing for 40 min in between performances we had to watch stupids sneak into the GA area.
Sound - Already mentioned, but the sound needed a major overhaul.
Water Bottles - Someone thought it would be ok to throw a water bottle at my sister's head... not cool.
1:30 AM - When I gave into my fatigue and said it's time to go home.
Next day - TIRED.

Having shared that with you, I still love all of the performers, own all of their albums, and will continue to listen to them and appreciate their energy (even though I had zero after all of the above).

Rebates... Love 'em or hate 'em, rebates are a pain in the (you know what). So, you all know I bought a computer, right? Well, there was a $150 and a $50 rebate associated with the purchase of the computer. I submitted on time and tracked the status. HP was very on top of things and promptly sent me my rebate. However, Office Depot struggles (what's new?) I checked the status of my rebate and was informed that my rebate check was sent to my same street address, but in CEDAR CITY!!! I don't live in Cedar City (never have, never plan to). At any rate, I contacted Office Depot's Rebate department to inform them I don't live in Cedar City and this was their reply:

We are happy to confirm that your order has been received and processed. Our records show that the rebate was mailed on 06/02/2008 to the following address:

Name:

KYLE METCALF

Address:

City, State, Postal Code:

CEDAR CITY, UT 84721

What's Up?... So, where have I been? Nowhere. I am not really sure why I haven't blogged in awhile. I just didn't feel like it. I could pretend that it was the weather, but that's not really fair, even though it is partially true... As the scan shows, I got a new phone. The Palm Centro. I think a whole blog could be devoted to my love of this phone (so, I won't go into a lot of detail). I saw the new Indiana Jones movie. Did I love it? 85% Yes 15% No. I expected way too much. I figured I would. I still think Last Crusade is my favorite and the best. I went to a Salt Lake Bees Game. It was surprisingly fun. I went with my work. It helps that I like the people that I work with. And lastly, I found my tickets to the Kanye West show that is less than a week a way!!! Oh, and I bought Ashanti's album. She's 1000 times better than Beyonce ever will be. Sorry, I have been gone for so long. I hope to take shorter breaks in the future.
